The Eagles were one of the most successful bands of the 1970. It’s no surprise they have five #1 singles and six Grammys to their name.
The Eagles have sold 150 million records , making them one of the world’s best selling bands. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked The Eagles at #75 among the 100 Greatest Artists of All-Time. Bob Shanks had the grand experience of watching The Eagles with his pops not once, but twice, live in concert. Both times were definitely a hoot & holler at Rogers Arena. #ClassicallyFresh indeed.
One Of These Nights came out three years later and produced awesome tracks like “One Of These Nights”, “Lyin’ Eyes” and “Take It To The Limit”. The first track reached the top of the Billboard charts.
Joe Walsh, who’s a pretty great guitarist and singer, joined the band that year taking over for Leadon. The Eagles continued making wicked tracks and shot to the top of the mountain in 1976, dropping Hotel California. This particular album was quite successful, selling over 26 million albums worldwide. Two amazing songs on that album reached number one in the charts, “New Kid In Town” and one of my all-time faves “Hotel California”. Randy left the band in ‘77 to be replaced by Timothy B Schmidt. The Eagles came out and produced their sixth studio album, Long Road Out of Eden, two years later. That album brought fourth three top 10 singles – “Heartache Tonight” (a chart topping song) “The Long Run” & “I Can’t Tell You Why”. The Eagles broke up in July 1980. It was 14 years before they reunited in 1994 for one of my favourite albums Hell Freezes Over, a collection of live tracks and songs from the studio. In ’98, they were inducted in to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In ‘07, the Eagles released Long Road Out Of Eden. Amazingly, this was the band’s first studio album in 28 years and their sixth number one album. Pretty epic. The very next year, they got going on the History of The Eagles, a concert tour that launched in conjunction with a documentary of the same name.
But I was so stoked and excited to hear some of my favourite songs “Take It Easy”, “Hotel California”, “Peaceful Easy Feeling” & “Heartache Tonight”. And our seats were fantastic. View of the stage – awesome. The whole experience was pretty spectacular.
Following the passing of long-time band mate Glenn Frey in January 2016, the band took a one-year break and realigned in 2017 with Frey’s son Deacon and country star Vince Gill. Deacon and Vince shared vocals for the late Glen Frey’s songs. With the band’s new lineup, I saw The Eagles for the second time at Rogers Arena in 2018. That was especially epic as no one was in front of us – we had a clear view of the stage. It was pretty special that the late Glenn Fry’s son Deacon and Vince Gill joined Don, Joe & Timothy on stage for the show. I gotta say a huge thank you to my pops for not only taking me to see the Eagles twice but introducing me when he did. #shanksforthememories. When I think of the Eagles, I think of a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band with some pretty #classicallyfresh tunes that everyone knows and loves. Listening to the music of this awesome band always brings back great memories. Seeing this great band twice with my dad is something I’ll never forget. -Bob Shanks
