I have always loved soccer as a sport to watch and play. When I was in elementary school, I played for a few years.
Christine Sinclair is somebody I have enjoyed watching and following her entire career. Something that I find so exciting is how engaged she is on the soccer pitch. Her goal scoring ability is made of pure skill, speed, finesse and a huge amount of dedication and determination.
Sinclair's success on the Canadian National Soccer Team is so impressive -- it is completely unparalleled. She made history this past January 29 at the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifiers against St. Kitts and Nevis. Playing in her 290th international game, the 36 year old Canadian star and team captain started with a bang, scoring in the 7th minute.
Sinclair left the contest in the 47th minute and the Canadians were victorious and came out on top with a score of 11-0.
After the game, Sinclair reflected on her career: "When I first started with the national team, I could never have imagined standing here with the number of goals I've scored." Wambach, who amazed with 184 goals over 255 contests, posted this on her Instagram account shortly after Sinclair surpassed her goal total: "Christine, history is made. Your victory is our victory. We celebrate with you."
Sinclair has definitely been the backbone of the Canadian National Team ever since she joined as a 16 year old. She was triumphant at the 2000 Algrave Cup, where she scored her first international goal.
Since then, Sinclair has played over 20 seasons with the Canadian National Women's Soccer Team. She has participated in 5 FIFA Woman's World Cups (USA 2003, China 2007, Germany 2011, Canada 2015 & France 2019) and 3 Olympics (Beijing 2008 and London 2012, where she scored 6 of Canada's 12 goals & Rio 2016). With Canada, she is a CONCACAF champion, a two time Olympic bronze medalist and a 14-time winner of the Canadian Soccer Player Of The Year Award. Professionally, she plays for the Portland Thorns FC in the National Women's Soccer League (she previously played for FC Gold Pride & Western New York Flash). Sinclair has established herself as one of the greatest players ever in the woman's game -- a remarkable Canadian soccer star. Watching her play is so enjoyable. Every time she touches the ball, something amazing always seems to happen.
Whether it's a pass through defenders in the slot or being in perfect position for a strike of the right foot -- she does it all with the speed and precision that we all know and love.
Soccer is such an exciting sport to watch, and Christine Sinclair brings out the excitement in Canadian fans. Christine Sinclair is our Canadian superstar.
